التشكيلي والناقد السوداني إبراهيم العوام أحد مؤسسي مدرسة الواحد التشكيلية، بعد عمر حافل قضاه في التعليم والفن التشكيلي والنقد.


ولد الراحل عام 1935 في منطقة الزومة في الولاية الشمالية، وتلقى تعليمه الأولي في دنقلا ودرس في مدينة مدني وفي مدارس الأحفاد في أمدرمان وانتقل إلى القاهرة في منتصف ستينيات القرن الماضي. ودرس الأنثروبولوجي في الجامعة الأمريكية في القاهرة. ثم نال دبلوم التربية في معهد بخت الرضا وبكالوريوس كلية الفنون الجميلة والتطبيقية في الخرطوم.


أقام أول معارضه الفردية في الفاشر عام 1965 عن معاناة أهل دارفور، وأقام عشرين معرضا فرديا وتسعة عشر معرضا جماعيا داخل وخارج السودان، وأبرز معارضه الخارجية كانت في فرنسا والقاهرة والإسكندرية، وألمانيا وكوريا ونادي الشارقة في الأمارات ولندن وطهران. وتزيد لوحاته عن تسعة آلاف لوحة، ونال الوسام الذهبي للآداب والفنون من رئيس الجمهورية 2002.
ظل موجودا في الوسط الثقافي وشغل منصب مدير عام قصر الشباب والأطفال 1984 ـ 1988 ويعنى القصر بتدريس الدراما والموسيقى، وعمل رئيس شعبة الفنون في بخت الرضا وأستاذا مشاركا في جامعة السودان 1999 ـ 2000.


ويعد الراحل أحد مؤسسي مدرسة الواحد التشكيلية، ومؤسس المدرسة الأحدية، وأصدر عددا من الكتب منها كتاب عن الفنان إبراهيم عوض بمناسبة اليوبيل الذهبي لعطائه الفني، وله ديوان شعر «الدرب»، وأربعة دواوين شعر معدة للطبع، وكتب مقدمات لعدد من إصدارات الكتاب والشعراء.
